03.06.12 New 2012 regs for the New Jersey fluke fishery

I don't know about you, but I love fly fishing for fluke (summer flounder) along the Jersey Shore. Most of the time I can do it while wet wading barefoot and fishing the wash or in a sandal/spike set up and fish off the rocks. This year the state Marine Fisheries Council established a minimum keeper size of 17.5 inches and extended the season by five days, from a May 7 through Sept 25th to a May 5th through Sept 28th season. A limit of five fish, down from eight last year, will now be in effect. Ask anyone who fluke fishes and they'll tell you how big the reduction in keeper size is, as it seemed most fish caught last year were just shy of the 28 inch mark.
