Planning on hitting the river today sometime after finishing up some work related computer stuff. Since my offerings were rejected yesterday I tied up something a little different. Smaller, darker in color, and a little bulkier up front. Funny how you really don't know how a fly looks until you give it a bath or swim it for a while. Tides are not good, high at 4 am and 4 pm, and the river has been on
below normal for this time of year and I hoped for a deluge of water from yesterdays storm that never materialized. As we get into the heat of summer snakeheads and smallmouth bass will be what I'm looking for, rather then just targeting striped bass. Water temps are between 75- 80 degrees during the day and even though these are river fish, the higher temps and stress from being caught can be too much. A draft from research done by the Nevada DEP shows results from a study done by Cook, et al. in 2006 shows what juvenile striped bass experience when water temps rise, to note, 27.4 degrees Celsius is 81.32 degrees Fahrenheit.
