05.13.24 And the work continues....

The above picture was taken from the West Jetty where the Cape May Canal meets the Delaware Bay. It so reminds me of Menemsha in Martha's Vineyard. A place that I love and wish I was returning to soon. I miss that trip with so much. It really kept me focused between the Junes each year.

Theresa and I went down for a two-day work detail and it was work. We dis get to hit Lucky Bones for a Friday night bite and a beer. You know these days, a bite and a beer, with a tip....$82 dollars. That was one Guinness, one Michelob Ultra, fried oyster app, a beet and goat cheese salad, and a filet mignon tip sandwich with fries. I don't know maybe I'm just getting cheap in my old age. Lucky Bones is on the right hand side when you come over the Canal bridge opposite their entrance to the road where The Lobster House is.

After dinner we did a quick spin through the marina and stopped to check out a guy at the cleaning table. He had a bunch of black drum that he was filleting up for his customers. I don't know why but I think I'll pass on the type of fish. It's just looks gross. And yes, I did see those big white worms. The mate said, "You just cut them out". The black drum are in the bays and rivers to spawn so I don't know why they don't make it catch and release or have a tight slot. But what do I know.

On Mother's Day morning I let Theresas sleep in and made my way down to the Delaware Bay. I guess most of the Cape May guys did the same, but I always remember dealing with the kids while mom slept in. Not these guys, "Gone Fishin'". There were two guys soaking clams looking for the drum

Closer to the inlet guys were out on the sand bar on the dropping tide. I took a walk and found a sand spike in the water with a nice bass that will be somebody's dinner. I don't know but it looks like it

could have used a quick measure to see if it fell within the legal slot. That 28-31 inches is pretty tight. It was then off to church and then Home Depot to buy a new pressure washer as I blew the one I've had for a few years up. For $200 these things work great and get the job done.

This weekend was a busy one down in Cape May County. Mother's Day, some festivals, and a Donald Trump for President rally which brought 100,000 people to Wildwood. While getting coffee in WaWa

I saw this RV in the parking lot. I just had to think to myself, "Who doe's this?", and, "Who has time for this?". I don't care if it's Trump or a Biden supporter. What is going on in your head? But anyway.

So we're almost done down there. Maybe one more work detail and it'll be ready for the season. I don't think I've missed anything fishing wise. The winds were honking east on the beach and the cold temps and rain cooler the river a bunch. It's been almost a 8 degree drop in five days but I'd rather see

it go down than go go up. Bass prefer the cooler water and I want them to stick around. But boy is Martha's Vineyard on my mind after that visit to the Cape May jetty.
