12.03.12 Tying up some bait for a charter today

The age old mystery continues in this late falls striper fishing. Unless you see a fish eat or harvest a fish and check it's stomach contents you'll never really know what they're eating. Lately we're marking lots of bait and some fish but it's confusing what they're eating mostly. Some say they're on sand eels, some say rain fish (bay anchovies), others bunker and or herring.

I've been using bigger flies on bigger hooks fished low and managing to get them to bite. I haven't really seen the bass rolling in small bait but hope to catch some of that with todays charter. Heading out a little later than normal looking for the afternoon bite.
