The last few trips we started out at first light, so today mixed it up a bit and headed out at 1 pm. Dropped in at Shark River and caught the incoming tide. Made our way to where we had found some fish but today found a lot of boats on the move and not much in the way of bird action. Found marks and dropped some Montauk Monster flies and had big blues eager to take. Went and looked for some bass.....and found more blues. The beach anglers had a great day with fish over 40 pounds caught.
Just before we turned into the inlet Rich saw birds working over blitzing blues, for sure, and maybe bass, right on the beach. I backed the boat in and we hooked up but got a big bite off on 60 pound mono from a big bluefish. Funny thing, not an angler on the beach.......it would have been fun to see someone get into them from the other side.
