This morning I took a ride from Sea Bright down to Asbury Park, starting north first. Found a concentration of anglers at Big Monmouth and figured they might be onto something. I walked along the failed beach replenishment project to find anglers throwing a mix of plugs, poppers, swimmers, bucktails, teasers, and metal without a bump. I waited with each retrieve to see if something would blow up on one as the sun rose.
There have some good reports of the boats doing well on the bass the last few days, from eels in the channels to flies up on top with bass to 25 pounds being caught. Could be the start of something good within the next week, because as most surf anglers will say it has been a very slow few weeks.
