05.15.25 Might be a few days...

With the river up again and off color it might be a few days until it's fishable again. That gave me some time after work to spend some time going through my gear for a mid-season check. I've been throwing my Helios 2 11 wt with a 350 Depth Charge line but now conditions call for breaking out the new Helios 12 wt with the 450 grain line. Fishing edges is fun, but the action is in the current.

For the past year, yes you know how I am with gear, I've noticed my Depth Charge line just doesn't have what it used to. The weight is gone, the line is cracked, and in some places split which creates a hinge effect, and it has a couple of never-coming-out air knots in it.

So I ordered up a new one and replaced it today. A few casts on the lawn let me know is was way past time for the switch. If the Helios is the "most accurate" rod out there, throwing a shitty line on it definitely won't get you casting to the exact spot where you want.

I do appreciate the line companies going to the cardboard recyclable spool. Over the years I have collected a bunch of the old plastic ones that were never put to good use. It's kind of like recyclable plastic bags, I'm good without them and it's good for the environment.

If it does stop raining I'll give the truck a cleaning and go through the bin of stuff I have in the back which is a collection of old and beat up flies and sticking rain gear and clothes. With some new leaders tied on a few flies I'll be ready to go next week when things are more favorable.
