05.08.25 Love when a plan comes together...

After yesterday's morning shift I went home and got ready for my Thursday class. While the fly that I have been using has been good, I thought that I'd tie up something new with a little color in it which may pop in the chocolate milk colored water. I went down in the late afternoon.

I was surprised to see the river still up and after a quick check it was still on the rise at then 34,000 cfs. That flow is a bit more than I like, preferring around 20-25,000 and just a tad off color.

I caught the ebb tide and worked the edges and pockets. I was wondering if my new fly would work and on my first cast I went tight. The evening fish were smaller then the morning's fish

fish as the big water pushed the little guys to the sides. At 34,000 it's hard to fish with the fly rod with any kind of efficiency. What was cool though was the technique that worked the best was a caddis-type skittering of the fly behind the rocks where the bass were fooled thinking they were

herring. I still haven't found those blumper 35-inch fish that I know are out there. There's still big timber coming down the river and it's a little darker then I'd like but with a no fishing day today maybe tomorrow will look better.
