05.12.25 A couple of fish on the edges...

Now back from a work detail down in Cape May I took a ride down to the river. Heading down I just had yet another eerie feeling. It happens every time things go bad on the Delaware River. It was two years ago July when five people lost their lives in a flash flood across the river from our house. That feeling in me occurs whenever there's a loss of life because it's the waters I enjoy so much. It's sad how waters can bring so much joy at times, and then be so sad for others when tragedy strikes.

I thought I could do my part and spend a few hours on the dropping tide looking for the missing person. I knew it was a small chance but at least I could give them an effort. There are so many miles of shoreline on both sides it could take awhile before the person could be found. As I walked and searched the NJ State Police Marine Unit was patrolling the shorelines. I hope the person is found soon.

Feeling kind of sick about the entire thing I thought about passing on fishing. What does this fishing all mean anyway in the scope and scale of life? While I almost just went home to work I thought what would a fisherman say to another.....just fish. So I did and said a prayer for those involved and the lives lost. I offered any success up to them probably just justifying me wanting to fish. I did find a couple of bass on the edges and it was good to break the ice. The rivers now at 51,400, down from 64,000 and soon it will drop like a stone. Water temps down to 58 degrees should keep things good.

Theresa and I busted our ass down in Cape May. It usually takes a few days to get the house up and ready for the summer. In the end we did good and decided to drive home late last

night rather then stay till this morning. We're blessed to have a place down in the Cape as it really has become our happy place. We did find a new hang and I strongly recommend it as it

has a great bar, good food, and believe it or not reasonably priced. It's called the C-View Inn, and it located right after the second bridge as you head into Cape May. It's a very popular locals kind of place and will be on our go-to list when we just want a cold beer and good food.
